Race Information and Rules

 

Join us for the Second Annual Little Shark Triathlon! This is a fun and safe kid's race for children ages 5-15 years old. The Little Shark Triathlon is USAT sanctioned this year for kids 7 and older! (per USAT, your age on Dec. 31, 2008 is your age on race day) Early registration ends 6/20/2008. T-shirts are guaranteed to everyone registered early.

Course Length:
Pre-Juniors 5-6 (25 m swim/2.0 mile bike/.6 mile run)
Juniors 7-10 (100 m swim/3.1 mile bike/.6 mile run)
Seniors 11-15 (200 m swim/6.2 mile bike/1.2 mile run)

This race will take place rain or shine. We will have a 2 hour race postponement contingency. There will be no refunds.

Packet Pickup:
Packet pick-up will be held on Friday June 27, 2008 from 4-8pm at the Melvin Ford Aquatic Center pool at Memorial Park, located on E. Central Ave. (Hwy 72) adjacent to Washington Junior High School in Bentonville. All racers must pick up their own packet. A parent/guardian will be required to sign a USAT waiver. Out of town racers should contact the race director to make pre-arrangements for race day packet pick up.

Transition:
Transition opens at 6:30 am. Body marking and safety inspections will take place before athletes enter transition area. Helmets are required. There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting at 7:45 am inside the pool area. Transition area closes for all racers at 7:30am.  Remarks by the mayor will take place at 7:45.  Race begins at 8:00am.

*Parent Note: Parents may enter transition to assist athletes with set-up but MUST exit transition at 7:30am. Parents may not enter transition at ANY time during the event.

Swim:
The swim will be a staggered start, with swimmers entering the water every 5 seconds. The swim is a serpentine pool swim.

Bike:
The bike course is a flat loop course on closed city streets.

Run:
The run course is an out and back course on park paths in Memorial Park.

USAT Registration:
All athletes must be a current member of USAT and will be required to provide a USAT membership card at packet pick-up. You may purchase a single-day youth USAT membership for $5.00 at packet pick-up, or you can purchase it online at www.usatriathlon.org and print out a card to bring to packet pick-up.

Awards:
Every racer will receive a finisher's medal when they cross the finish line! Trophies will be awarded for 1st-3rd place per age group for boys and girls. Refreshments and awards immediately following the race!

All proceeds go to Northwest Arkansas Aquatics Association, a Section 501c3 (not for profit) corporation.  The Purpose of NWAA is to promote health and well-being through the sport of swimming.
